As we head into the home stretch of what can only be described as one of the more challenging years in recent memory, many of us are realizing that we need to change our way of life. We need to be more harmonized with our environment and with each other – as well as consider the products we use every day, and what we could use instead to support a more organically-based well-being. We need to get back in-tune with our creativity, and craft. We need to learn from the past and find a way to reutilize old tools to help us build a better future. All of which bring us to today’s topic: CBD balms and salves.
So… What’s Topical CBD Got To Do With It?
So, you’re probably asking – what does a CBD salve have to do with incorporating the tools of the past into the present to build a better future? What does that have to do with the crafts – those that increase our vitality as human beings?
First, it is important to remember that “modern medicine” is still relatively new in regards to human development. In fact, it was not until the Moorish occupation of Spain in the 14th century that the medicinal wisdom of the world was collected and shared in one place. Before then, it was all about localized ‘folk medicine’ and healing traditions that were handed down for thousands of years. It was a practice that was as much art as science, and salves and balms have always been one of the main cornerstones of this practice.
Plant Medicine
Cannabis has played a key role in ‘folk medicine’ and the medicinal practices of the ancients. From China and India in Asia, to the Celts in Europe, the savannas of Africa, and the plains and jungles of the Americas, cannabis has been used as a powerful healing tool. One of the most common expressions of cannabis as medicine are cannabis-based balms and salves.
What’s It All For?
Balms and salves have been used for everything from softening the skin and treating skin ailments – such as eczema and psoriasis – to treating severe arthritis, muscle pain, and even wounds – as well as reducing scar tissue. Cannabis salve preparations associated with ancient Egypt and Europe were used as disinfectants, antibacterial agents, for pain relief, reducing inflammation and swelling, and the treatment of ailments such as arthritis.
Our Sunset Salve
In this tradition of craft and healing we at California Craft have, under the guidance of our master formulator Chase Allen, created our own Sunset Salve that can be used for many of the previously mentioned applications.
The salve itself is a soothing muscle and joint relief compound made from ethically sourced therapeutic botanical ingredients and high-quality California grown hemp.
The majority of the ingredients are USDA certified organic and include Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, , Beeswax, Menthol Crystals, Cayenne Pepper, Arnica, Comfrey, and Essential Oils such as Camphor, Boswellia, Cinnamon, and Clove.
The salve is specifically designed to provide both cooling and heating sensations that penetrate deep into the skin and into the muscles providing relief from aches and pains and general muscle tension.
