Hey, hey, here we are in week 2 of our BRAND NEW YEAR!! So far so, not so terrible. There is a bunch of weird stuff going on out there in the world. People are still stressed about Covid but there is a more optimism. Omicron is evidence that the virus is finally following the rules of a panademic that is on its way to neutralizing its self. It will still take time but it looks like Covid will soon be relegated to the area of annual flu. Which is freakin AWESOME!!
The Dynamics of Cannabis
Speaking of awesome, since the pandemic began cannabis, particularly hemp research has been growing, al lot. As restrictions loosen, both in regard to the pandemic and to cannabis in general, researchers are diving deeper into laboratory and clinical studies on cannabis.
Multiple universities in the US now offer educational programs for both with cannabis and hemp. The programs range from the bio-science and plant chemistry of cannabis, to how to how to run a cannabis business. The overall result is that cannabis and hemp research are moving forward by leaps and bounds. The results are almost all the same, the therapeutic value of cannabis is amazing.
We have written blogs about cannabis education before here and here, but our knowledge has grown a lot since then. We want to share what we have learned over the last two years. So in the spirit of the New Year and self-improvement we are going to revisit our cannabis tutorial to provide you deeper insight into the power of cannabis/hemp. This blog marks the beginning of our new educational series on the secrets of cannabis.
Back to the Basics
To get us started we are going back to the basics. What is Cannabis ? There are two main types of cannabis, Cannabis Sativa (marijuana or cannabis) and Cannabis Sativa L (hemp or technical hemp). Both plants have therapeutic qualities, and both have chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. Cannabis has a lot of a cannbinoid known as THC. THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis that gets you “high”. THC also has a variety of other therapeutic qualities such as pain relief and appetite stimulation.
Hemp has very little THC which means it has no psychoactive effect on the user but it does have a lot of another cannabinoid known as CBD. CBD as we know is very effective in treating stress, inflammation and pain.
Both Cannabis and Hemp have many other cannabinoids. There are over 115 cannabinoid compounds in any given Hemp or Cannabis plant. These cannabinoids all work together to create a synergistic effect on the human body. When you use cannabis or hemp products you are not just getting the benefits of the dominant cannabinoid. You are also getting the benefit of the synergistic interaction between the other cannabinoids in the plant.
The Same but Different
Some of the more well-known cannabinoids include THC, CBD, CBG, and CBN. Some of the lesser known cannabinoids include CBDA, CBGV and CBC. There are also cannabinoids that are relative newcomers on the scene such as CBL and CBT.
All of the cannabinoids share similar therapeutic qualities such as:
- Anti-inflammation
- Anti-anxiety
- Pain management
As we dig deeper on the research we see that each cannbinoid has its own super powers. CBG can have a positive impact on ADHD. CBDA has shown promise when treating feminine health issues such as menstruation and menopause. CBN is reputed to be very effective with sleeping disorders. When all of these elements start working together the results are truly amazing.
Just the Beginning…
Yeah, so there is a lot to unpack here and this is really just scratching the surface. So we are going to take a breather for now. Over the coming weeks we will dive deeper into the subject and share with you the fantastic and sometimes unbelievable facts that we have learned about the cannabis/hemp plant and how it interacts with the human body. So get some rest this weekend and join us next week as we continue our educational tour de force on the mysteries and power of the cannabis/hemp plant.
In the mean time have a great weekend and don’t forget to stop by the shop to stock up on your winter supplies. Be well and be you.
