Happy Friday!! Summer is here and we are all so grateful for everything that we have. We are grateful for this wonderful planet that we have the honor of calling our home. We are grateful that we live in a country that allows us to openly address social inequality and injustice without fear of repression. We are grateful for our family and friends, and we are grateful for the technology that has allowed us all to remain in daily contact during the last few months.
That said, our connection to – and reliance upon – technology has been at the top of our minds, while we’ve all been spending so much time at home lately. Today, let’s take a look at the effect technology has on our decision-making, and how we can focus on choosing quality when it comes to product selection for wellness in our own lives.
The Good
In the last decade, the presence and capabilities of technology have grown exponentially. Social media has gone from being an internet novelty to becoming an integral part of our daily lives. The use of social media – and the internet as a whole – has created a world of connectivity and information sharing that has no equal in human history. It has made the world “smaller” in a sense, and has brought us closer to each other in ways we never thought possible.
The Bad
At first glance, this sounds great. It is a strong indicator that we as humans are essentially social animals that thrive on communication – but there is a dark side to this, too. Since 2015, we’ve seen social media evolve into a platform for spreading propaganda, disinformation and “fake news”. We have seen it in politics, in medicine, and in business. Unfortunately, the CBD industry is no exception.
The Ugly
“Fake news”, disinformation and propaganda surrounding Hemp and Cannabis led to the global prohibition of cannabis in the mid-twentieth century. Things have changed recently, but there is a large amount of confusing information that is still spread on the subjects of Hemp and CBD. Sadly, some companies are taking advantage of this chaotic environment to make false product claims and market low-quality (and potentially unsafe) products.
Safety and Efficacy
As a consumer, it’s important to be able to have confidence that the CBD products you purchase are produced with an emphasis on quality and ethical practices. This starts with the quality of soil the plants are grown in, and ends with the quality, consistency and efficacy of the final product.
The Best Practices
The first step is finding a company that focuses on the ethical production and distribution of quality products. The next is to confirm that each product comes with an associated Certificate of Analysis (COA). The COA will contain all details of the product’s chemical make-up. This should cover everything from the levels of individual cannabinoids in the product to the amount of potentially harmful substances such as heavy metals, pesticides and other toxins.
It’s All About You
At the end of the day only you, the end-user, will be able to determine the efficacy of the products you choose – whether they are CBD tinctures, salves, pain sticks or gummies. However, choosing ethically sourced and produced products is an important step in the right direction. Don’t be afraid to dive into research around the company from which you’re hoping to purchase or ask questions about the products you’re interested in. So, let’s all be safe out there, have a great weekend and remember health is wealth.
