Hi everybody!! Another week is behind us and the holiday season approacheth. But we still have a week or two of fun and relaxation ahead of us so let’s enjoy it while we can.
Speaking of enjoying things. The CBD industry as we have discussed is full of all kinds, pit-falls, perils and man-traps. So much so that it is all too easy to lose site of the reasons why we are in this industry. Cannabis is an amazing plant with such a wide variety of uses that it is difficult to believe. We see cannabis moving to become one of the major pillars of sustainable development and it is super exciting to watch and to be a part of.
Back to the Basics
At a very basic level cannabis is an amazing plant. It has been used by humans medicinally for thousands of years. From India to China to the middle east, Africa, and the Americas. The plant has over 115 cannabinoids of which Delta 9 THC and CBD are but two.
Of the wide variety of cannabinoids that exist in the plant only a handful have been studied in detail. One scientific fact that has come from this research is that the human body has an internal system of receptors that interact directly with cannabinoids. This system is known as the Endocannabinoid system or the ECS.
We have written on this subject before here. But we have learned a great deal since then and will be updating our cannabis tutorial in our future blogs.
Cannabinoid Rock Stars
As we stated, there are over 115 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. There are Rockstar cannabinoids THC and CBD. Then there is the back-up singers/roadies CBDA, CBN, and CBC that provide support. The individual cannabinoids work together in a band of complimentary synergistic connection, creating what is referred to as the “entourage effect”.
And then there is CBG.
The Mother of all Cannabinoids
CBG (Cannbigerol)like CBD, and pretty much every other cannabinoid aside from the THC varieties, is non-psycho-active. This means that there is no intoxicating effect. CBG might not have the same immediate clout of CBD or THC but it is a major influencer in the cannabis hierarchy.
You see CBG is in fact the first cannabinoid to develop in a maturing cannabis plant. This is why CBG is considered to be a root cannabinoid or the mother molecule for the other cannabinoids. All other cannabinoids develop from CBG as the plant continues to grow and mature. CBG was first discovered in a laboratory in Israel in 1964. It has been said that the discovery of CBG is to cannabis what the Higgs boson is to the Big Bang Theory. Both are considered to be foundations for creation.
The Real Deal
Ok but all that fancy, sciencey stuff to the side what does CBG actually do? There is no small amount of official clinical data for CBG that shows CBG’s potential as a botanical therapeutic compound. Clinical evidence has recorded CBG having a positive impact on everything from pain relief, to glaucoma and prostate and oral colorectal cancers. It also has neurogenesis and neuroprotective properties. This means that CBG can potentially be helpful in treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
There is also anecdotal evidence that shows CBG has a positive impact on conditions such as ADHD. It has also been considered as a preventive therapy for people who are at risk for Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. And remember that this is all in addition to the cool things that we already get from CBD. The decreased anxiety, the improved sleep patterns, and just the overall chillaxed sense of well-being and calm that accompanies regular CBD use.
Getting Personal
So that is the skinny, the 411, the low-down at the hoe-down on CBG. For us here at California Craft CBG is by far our favorite cannabinoid. Those of us here who suffer from ADHD have been floored by CBG’s ability to help you stay focused and on task for hours at a time. The rest of us just love the relaxed but focused feeling that it gives. We are so impressed by it that we are going to launch our own CBG tincture at the beginning of next month. So, stay tuned!! And in the meantime, pop by the shop to stock up before the holiday crush starts. We’ll see you next week, be well until then and remember, health is wealth.
