As we round third base on another week (Happy Friday!), I wanted to share something fun for your weekend. Did you know you can do more with your CBD tincture than just slip it under your tongue?
Hi! My name is Lauren Wilson, and I am really happy to be here with the California Craft crew as a guest blogger for the next few weeks. Like the folks that run California Craft, I am very passionate about the Cannabis sativa L. family that includes both hemp and cannabis plants.
Not only have I experienced the healing power of these plants firsthand, but in writing multiple books and many articles about CBD I have talked to so many folks who have experienced the same.
Make Your CBD Oil Do More For You
Taking CBD sublingually (or under the tongue) is a very common and effective way to get the good stuff in the oil into your body. The membrane under your tongue is a fairly direct route to your bloodstream, taking effect in just minutes and lasting for up to several hours.
But that’s not the only way to use your oil. You can use your CBD oil in oh-so-many different ways, each offering its own unique benefits to help bring more balance, vitality, and enjoyment to your day-to-day.
CBD oil can effortlessly be added to foods, beverages, along with fun DIY wellness and beauty projects. So before my latest book, Merry Jane’s The CBD Solution: Wellness, hits the shelves officially this Tuesday, I wanted to give you a sneak peek and share two of my favorite recipes from the book–because there are so many great ways to make your CBD oil do more for you.
Topical CBD: How to Make a CBD Healing Ointment
This ointment is a fixture in my first aid kit. As a professional cook who teaches classes and develops recipes, I suffer from the occasional burn or scrape. I’m sure you’ve experienced this too, burns can be total bummers.
Not with this stuff. It’s packed with all kinds of plant-based healing agents like comfrey (for inflammation), calendula (to keep things clean and help new tissue grow), and plantain (to speed healing). After testing this recipe for The CBD Solution, I even made a big batch to give out to the friends I know working at local restaurants here in Brooklyn. Slather it onto burns as soon as they happen or minor scrapes–just make sure any open wounds are healed over before you do.
I also really love this ointment when I accidentally get sunburned. I say accidentally because, in this day and age, we all know that the regular application of sunscreen is not negotiable. Right? Right. But just in case you forget to reapply after getting out of the water, or you have an especially sensitive nose like me, this healing ointment is a very nice solution to have on hand during summer months.
Ingredients:
¾ cup(180ml) extra virgin olive oil 2 tbsp organic dried comfrey leaf 2tbs organic dried plantain, crushed 2 Tbsp dried St John’s wort flowers 50 drops of lavender essential oil 1 oz (30g) beeswax 750mg CBD in unflavored MCT or olive oil 2 tbsp raw honey Cheesecloth for straining
|
Put a heat-proof measuring cup into a medium sauce pan and add water to the pan until it comes halfway up the outside of the cup. Add the olive oil along with the comfrey, calendula, plantain, and St. John’s wort. |
Heat on low for 60 minutes stirring occasionally. In the meantime, measure out the lavender oil and set aside.
Line a colander with one layer of cheesecloth, then strain the infused olive oil into a bowl. Set aside.
Add the beeswax to the measuring cup and return the measuring cup to the pot with the still hot water, and stir until melted (if the water is not hot enough to melt the wax turn the heat on low until melted). Once melted, remove from the water and wipe down the sides of the measuring cup to dry.
Add the infused olive oil to the melted beeswax, along with the lavender oil, CBD oil, and honey. Mix well. Pour into tins or small glass jars to cool completely before covering. Store in a cool, dark place.

Edible CBD: How to Make a Plum & Rosemary CBD Spritz
Lots of people are trying to live healthier lifestyles, and it’s become especially important to many folks in the midst of the global COVID pandemic. They are eating their kale, trying to meditate every day, and they are cleaning up their sleep hygiene. They’re also ditching alcohol. So much so that lots of folks consider themselves to be sober-curious and booze-free bars are becoming a thing.
Why not try swapping the Aperol for some CBD in your next spritz? This lovely and refreshing zero-proof cocktail is a great way to toast the end of summer when the plums are just perfect and we are getting ready for fall to arrive.
Ingredients:
2 dark ripe plums cut into wedges ½ cup plus 2 tbsp (95g) unrefined sugar ½ cup (80ml) water Two 3 in. (7.5cm) sprigs rosemary, plus 1 for garnish 40mg CBD in unflavored oil 2 dashes orange bitters Ice Cubes |
Add the plums, 2 Tbsp (30g) of the sugar, and the water to a small pot and bring to a gentle simmer over medium low heat. |
Cook, stirring occasionally until the plums are soft and falling apart, and the liquid had thickened slightly, about 20 minutes. Do not over-cook.
Turn off the heat, add the rosemary and the remaining 1/3 cup (65g) of sugar and stir to combine.
Set aside and steep for 30 minutes and then drain.
To a cocktail shaker add ¼ cup (60ml) of the strained syrup (the remaining syrup can be refrigerated for future use), the CBD oil and orange bitters. Top with ice and shake vigorously.
Add more ice to a tall Collins glass, strain the CBD infusion into the glass.
Top with club soda and garnish with a rosemary sprig. |
So go on, have some fun with your CBD oil this weekend! And let us know how it went by sharing your adventures on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or Twitter.
